Selecting the right accessories for your awning can make the difference between liking your awning and LOVING your awning.
The objective of a retractable awning is to provide shade whenever you want it, not just for a few hours when the sun is directly overhead.
For decks or patios facing east or west, the sun can make the space unusable at certain times of day. Our front solar screens, made of 90% partially open fabric, roll down to block the sun when the sun is at a lower angle.
Additionally, for decks or patios facing north or south, side solar screens can perform the same function. Like all of our retractable products, when you don't need them, they can be simply rolled up or stored.
Extend the Use of Your Awning
Because retractable awnings can be susceptible to damage in high winds, it is important to retract your awning under these types of conditions. Our wind stabilization poles allow the awning to be used in moderate winds. More importantly, the wind stabilizing poles reduce stress that the wind can transfer back to the structure.
Protect Your Investment
While our solution dyed acrylic fabrics are made specifically for outdoor use, it still makes sense to protect your fabric when the awning is retracted. Our premium plus model has this feature built into its makeup. On the Thatcher Classic and the Thatcher Premium, there are two options.
1. Decorative Hood
Some customers choose to purchase a decorative hood. This hood rests above the awning providing some protection and a more finished look. This hood remains installed all year round. For a number of reasons, we do not recommend this option.
2. Winter Cover
Other customers choose to have an open fabric roll for the seasons that the awning is in use, and cover the awning with a soft vinyl cover for the winter months. This cover installs and removes easily. If you are unable to install the cover, Thatcher Retracrables can do it for you!

Automate Your Awning
All Thatcher Retractable Motorized Awnings come complete with a three button remote control. The three button remote operates the awning out, in, and allows the awning to be stopped in any position. In addition to these functions, there are a variety of other options to automate your awning or shade.
1. Sun Sensors
These sensors automatically extend the awning or shade when they sense sunlight. These sensors work particularly well for retractable awnings or shades covering windows. These sensors should ALWAYS be combined with wind sensors.
2. Wind Sensors
Thatcher Retractables only utilizes the wind sensor product that senses motion. When the awning reaches the threshold set by the customer, the awning will retract automatically. While we offer this product, it is important to understand the limitations of this product. Please consult with your salesperson regarding your specific application.
3. Integrate With Your Existing Home Automation System
Thatcher Retractable motors are designed to integrate with existing home automation systems. Thatcher Retractables can provide the necessary components for your home automation expert to adapt your awnings or shades to work with your system. This can allow for virtually limitless control of your awnings or shades.
